Doug Green’s 2nd Temple Judaism Field Trip

Turns out that the reason Dr. Green’s Westminster biblical studies classes are so engaging is the in-depth research he does in preparation…research that goes right back to the sources. No, we don’t mean the Greek and Hebrew text, we mean the sources.

Witness this picture made during one of Doug’s personal audiences with the Apostle Paul:

Doug and Paul are friends!

Doug: “I’ll give you these 10 denarii if you take your thumb off that genitive in Romans 3:22!”

Paul: “Too late! Tom Wright already gave me 20!”

    Yikes! Now we’re talking resemblance.

  3. Rachel Says:

Mark - this is greatness. :)

What is the exchange rate for denarii these days anyway? :-)

Mark, that’s was superb. Cynthia and I are laughing out loud.

  5. William, Nielsen Says:

eh.. hem. That would be “that was” not “that’s was”, sorry laughing too hard to care about apostrophes.

Don’t know, but obviously a bishop who lives in a castle has deeper pockets than a WTS prof!

Glad you all enjoyed these. I think I’d better lay off Doug for a while or he’s going to have me arrested for stalking!

  7. Bonnie Says:

Holy mackerel, that’s really Dr. Green; he looks thinner there.

  8. Mark Traphagen Says:

Hey, he had to walk all the way from Australia to Palestine. There was no Quantas (or Oceanic!) airlines back in those days.

  9. Doug Green Says:

What Saint Paul Really Said (to his Amanuensis):
“No, Doug. I don’t think I said ‘… to the Jews first, and then to the Greens.’”

  10. Mark Traphagen Says:

OK, guess we’ve started a “supply your own caption” meme. Have at it!

  11. Doug Green Says:

And What Saint Paul Really Said was “… to the Jew first and then to El Greco.”

    Brilliante!

  13. Luke Says:

Warning! The butt-kissing on this blog is spiraling out of control.

  14. Mark Traphagen Says:

I’m about to take an Al Groves Hebrew quiz. Perhaps I should quickly post a Tribute to the Wonder That Is Al Groves post.

  15. Ben D. Says:

    Al Green is great.

  16. Daniel Says:

Paul to his Amanuensis Doug: “Why did you change pistuein eis christon to pistis christou?” “Well Paul, have you ever realized how wordy you can be?”…

  17. Mark Traphagen Says:

Thanks for the suggestion, Ben. Although it is true that Doug can sing just like Al Green, they hardly look alike.

And Daniel, I already did the subjective genetive joke. Move along, nothing to see here.

    Mark,

This has nothing at all to do with this very funny post, but it may save you $14 bucks at the bookstore. I think you are in Salvation I with Gaffin (I am taking it with you from Dallas if that is the case). At any rate one of the books we need to read is a public domain work by Warfield: The Plan of Salvation. I wanted to make it available for those who might prefer a PDF version from my blog.

If you would prefer lewd comments about the New Perspective, Luther, Justification or anything else controversial, give me a bit to get my sin nature in a huff and I will…

    Will

  19. Mark Traphagen Says:

Thanks for the link, Will. I’m not taking Salvation I; probably next year.

And if you can get lewd on NPP, Luther, and Justification…well, you’ll just about have offended everyone equally!

  20. William, Nielsen Says:

Well, if the basis for differientiating a WTS class was the exegesis of Luke 24:44 then we would all be in the same class all the time wouldn’t we. :-) I think each prof I have had in each of my classes has spent a lecture on that passage. Sorry for the false alarm.
