MilePost 1

Most of you are probably well aware that the term blog is short for weblog. Blogging software was developed originally to provide a convenient way to log links to significant web sites having to do with a particular topic. Before long, though, people discovered that it also afforded an excellent environment for journaling. Now, of course, far more people use and think of blogging software in the latter category.

In reality, though, many of us bloggers do a little of both. Sacred Journey has certainly been a mix of serious (and not so serious) journaling with the smattering of links I find interesting. However, it is the journaling/essaying side that I want to emphasize here. So borrowing an idea from several other bloggers, I’ve decided to start aggregating the more random posts–mostly little scraps of randomness I pick up across the web–under milepost.jpgoccassional (weekly?) MilePost posts (in keeping with the Sacred Journey metaphorical thing, right?). Each MilePost will contain links to sites that make me say, “I’ve gotta tell someone about this!” but aren’t necessarily worthy of a whole post. This way if you come to Sacred Journey for the more thoughtful stuff, you can just skip the MilePosts. If the randomness lights your pipe, then I hope you’ll enjoy your brief stay at each MilePost.

So here is MilePost #1…

  • Christianity Today has released its list of the Top 50 Books that Have Shaped Evangelicals. If you are what you read, then this probably explains a lot. Interesting to me that of the books on the list, I recognize about 20 of the titles as books we carry at Westminster Bookstore. Since I don’t think we carry junk, maybe there is some hope for evangelicalism after all. (And didn’t that just sound downright snooty!)
  • Speaking of “top” lists…are you one of those sad few whose friends never forward the hottest video snippets from the Web. Well now you can have your very own collection of the Top 10 Viral Videos of all time! Where were you when Star Wars Kid was number 1? (BTW, have no fear. “Viral” in that title refers to how quickly these videos spread across the web, not to their potential to reformat your hard drive.)
  • I’m announcing today that I am launching the next really big Internet venture, a search engine portal that will rival Google! Investors are welcome. (Try it out; it really works!
  • Some new (highly recommended) blogs from classmates at Westminster: Alreadynotyet by John Fouad Hanna, blogotelic by Jason Kirklin, and Snubnosed in Alpha by David Williams.
  • At the urging of some friends I have begun watching season 1 of Arrested Development. Now I know what all the hype was about. I’m glad to see the episodes are half-hour, so I can digest them one at a time as late-night rewards for study time well-spent.
  • What can happen when you take Josh Harris’s advide to “kiss dating goodbye.”
  • Finally, if its chilly where you are tonight, here’s a little warmth from us at 228 N. Tyson Ave…
