Do I Get Eggroll With That?
I was searching Google images tonight to see what came up for my last name. I found a site that actually had Traphagen translated into Chinese:
So if anyone reading this reads Chinese, can you tell me if that’s a phonetic interpretation. I’d suspect that it is. To truly “translate” my name, you’d have to know what Chris Brooks, the guy who has researched the Traphagen family history for over thirty years, recently discovered. Turns out the family name most likely derives from ‘Trapen’, a bird native to northern Europe and ‘Hagen’, meaning a grove or thicket, thus the Grove where Trapen’s live. This bird is seen on a crest used by Anthony Traphagen of Almena, Lippe in 1666.

yup. phonetic it is. if you took each character apart, an attempt at meaning might run something like this: special-pull-rise-root, but it’d really depend on the context.

I’m going to have my name legally changed to Mark William Specialpullriseroot. Either that or I’m going to order a pint of it from the Great Wall takeout place down the street.
