So my question is: how does one go about learning to do this? I mean, I understand the physics of it, but having the eye to look at an oddly-shaped rock and think if an odd way it can stand upright? Some of those photos are fascinating.

It’s tricky, Matthew. Karyn pulls it off because she has so much more patience than me. Last night I accomplished my first successful balance sculpture with four small rocks I collected on the slopes of Pike’s Peak. I was so proud and called Karyn in to see. She smiled and said, “Well, that’s a nice pile.”

Somehow I imagine that when Mark and Karyn wake up in the morning, Mark says to Kayrn, “What are we going to today, LSW?” and she replies, “Same thing we do every day, Mark, TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!”
