Ethan’s Surgery

Ethan and PoppyAfter almost three years of consultation after consultation, it has finally been determined that my grandson Ethan does indeed have a mild cleft palate as the cause of his speech difficulties. Even better than the good news of finally having a confirmed diagnosis was the doctor’s confidence that this can be repaired though surgery and that Ethan should be able to make a full recovery.

Today we found out that the surgery will be scheduled March 18…which falls during our spring break, so Karyn will be able to travel down and help Sarah during that time!

The drawing with this thread, from a photo of me holding Ethan, was done by my amazingly talented friend Brian, creator of the Gravyboy comic series.

Ruth and I are both prayin’ for him!

Thank you so much for all your support and prayers. We are so thankful that the surgery is scheduled during a period that Mom can come down to NC, and this was through no planning on our part. It will truly be a blessing to have her with us during that time.

I love the picture of you and Ethan!

Ugh. Kids and knives shouldn’t have to mix. No fun. At least good will come from it. I’ll be keeping this in my prayers.

A lot wil depend of Ethan’s speech recovery will depend on hard work put in by his parents to daily implement the strategies of his therapist. Karyn and I have been deeply impressed by John and Sarah’s committment to this. If any child in the world had hope in this situation, it is Ethan.
