Just a story

Sometimes I realize that I don’t write in this blog as often as I could because I am waiting for something profound or big to write about. I need to remember that life is also precious for the little things. I hope to try to bring the gloriously trivial here a little more often.

For example, some of you may remeber that my wife and I have people over for lunch every Sunday after worship. The group varies, but the most consistent attenders seem to be grad students from UVa, some married and some not. Last Sunday, one of the couples (we’ll call them the Smiths) told us that they were looking for a new apartment. We mentioned that ours would be available at the end of July once we move to Philadelphia for seminary. The Smiths were very interested, but told us that they felt they should first honor a committment they had to look at an apartment they had been told about by a local ministry leader.

So the next day our landlady informs us that she has a couple who want to come see our apartment. And who is it? But of course, the Smiths!

That’s it. Insert your own profundity below.

    Sage, that cartoon is hilarious!

I love hearing about trivial, little things even if I can’t always think of a response to write.

And thanks for your trivial, yet appreciated, response!

Mark, think of this space as your own narrative. While that might make you seize up and keep from writing, it shouldn’t; you’re simply writing your own story, one full of rush jobs, half-finished thoughts, and no editing.

After all, you can always come back and revise your remarks, whether you edit the entry or come back and write a whole new entry saying, “Look, I was wrong before.”

Or at least that’s how I do it. YMMV.

Definitely seems like things are reaching closure for your time in C’ville. Were you able to sell your car to that person who was interested?

** I love hearing all of your thoughts - no matter how random or un-profound!

Good story, no matter how small it might seem in the grand scheme of it all. Now we just have to pray that there is a similar story waiting to unfold for you and the LSW in Philly!

You’re welcome! Maybe the Smiths would like your car, too! :)

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Nobody was more surprised than I that I would enjoy writing here so much. Geof, your advice is much appreciated. Since this is a personal as well as public journal, those little tidbits of life-info are what I’ll probably most relish years from now.

No, the car isn’t sold…but the “Smiths” are probably going to take the old apartment…”this is where we used to live!”
