Concert Pics & Casella News
The pictures from the Casella/Bassett concert are up!
At the concert, Jeremy shared some news with us. Most importantly, he’s engaged to Kirsten Berry (the review writer from Grassroots)! An early fall wedding is planned; Phil Keaggy might provide music.
In other news, Jeremy’s been through some rough times trying to get his latest album out. It was his first “non-indy”, with a very nice budget from a major secular label. Snag came because the secular label had contracted with a major Christian label to release the album. Long story short…the major Christian label decided not to release the project because “it didn’t have a good single.”
I’ve had the opportunity to hear this album…it has phenomenal songwriting and some of the best production values of all of Jeremy’s albums. I mean, one song even has the Blind freakin’ Boys of Alabama singing backup!
All the way to the concert I fought back anger over the stupidity of this record company. I couldn’t believe that the incredible music I was listening to might never be heard by the masses. However, at the concert I was floored by Jeremy’s trust in God’s sovereignty in all that’s happened.
At this point, he’s hoping to re-record the songs and release them as an indy album. He’s in negotiations to try to use the present recordings for promo purposes. For now, he’s asked me to keep them under wraps as he pursues those negotiations. As soon as I get a green light, you myriads of myriads that are the vast audience of this blog (all 10 of you) will have first shot at those files.

Jeremy hadn’t told me all that … but damn. That smells, too.
Frickin’ labels.
The CD is, as you note, quite good.

:sigh: I didn’t see any Stealth Disco pictures!

Haha! Joe had Rhonda watching me every moment to make sure I didn’t pull a stealth disco. Rhonda is a kindergarten teacher. You don’t mess with kindergarten teachers.

the news is frustrating, but I’m not surprised really. if you can’t get a single, it’s hard to push an album, and Jeremy’s music has too much substance for the “positive” “family friendly” fluff of most “upbeat” stations (notice how they avoid actually say they’re Christian anymore).
But I really want to hear this project. When I went down to Orlando last week, the one CD I brought with me was Cassella’s “Faith and Heartache”. I probably listened to that short CD 10 times, and still loved it.
