It makes me think of "A Severe Mercy" by Sheldon Vanauken (if you've never read it, I think you'd maybe enjoy it). It is a tremendous challenge to me right now to see someone who is willing to forego logic to follow the call. P.S. thank you for your kind comments on my blog.
